Senayit M. Wereta

I'm Senayit — a Computational & Data Sciences major at George Mason University, based in Alexandria, Virginia and working across the greater Washington, DC area. My focus sits where data engineering, automation, and applied machine learning meet: taking manual, repetitive work and turning it into something reliable that runs on its own.

Right now I'm an AI Specialist intern at Handshake AI, working remotely to evaluate large language model responses for accuracy, relevance, reasoning, and quality against detailed guidelines, and to design and refine domain-specific prompts that improve LLM training and evaluation workflows.

At Verizon I spent two internships doing exactly that. In summer 2024, as a Product Security Intern in Ashburn, VA, I developed automation solutions in Python and SQL to improve internal workflows — including automating email communications and training assignments such as phishing trainings — and managed and processed employee and training data to support organizational initiatives, alongside reporting, data analysis, and process improvement work. The winter before, as a Global Network & Technology Intern, I collaborated on an AI-powered internal documentation tool, working with machine learning concepts, large language models, and data retrieval techniques.

Before that, I spent over two years at Northern Virginia Community College as an Education Support Specialist, supporting student services, events, and academic initiatives, and collaborating with faculty, advisors, and university partners on outreach and transfer programs. That work taught me how to translate between technical detail and the people who depend on it.

Outside of coursework I stay involved with NSBE, the Society of Women Engineers, Break Through Tech, and Girls Who Code at GMU, and I'm a Grace Hopper scholarship recipient. I graduate in May 2028 and I'm looking for software, data, and cybersecurity opportunities in between.
